The Jardim Botanico is full of Portuguese history. It was designed in 1873 for the Universidade de Lisboa (classica) botany program and is filled with trees and flowers from Latin America, China, Australia and New Zeeland. Most of the plants are still tended today, but I find that the garden’s charm comes from its now rusting observation classrooms and slightly run-down buildings. Its a wonderful place to bring a book on Saturdays.
